Quizproof

Use quiz answers in customer segments

Quizproof can save a shopper's answer on their Shopify customer as a customer field (a customer metafield in the quizproof namespace). Shopify's customer segments can filter by it, for example "skin type is Oily" or "concerns contains Acne". Other apps that read Shopify customer fields can use it too.

Before you start: customer fields are written for shoppers who opt in to marketing with the Opt-in question, so set that up first (Collect emails with the opt-in question).

Turn a field on#

  1. Open the quiz's editor and choose a question: single choice, multiple choice, image choice, dropdown, number or slider.

  2. Turn on Save as customer field.

  3. Check the key (for example skin_quiz_skin_type) and each answer's customer value, the text the field stores. A customer value stays the same when you edit the answer's label later.

  4. Publish. Quizproof creates the field in Shopify when the version goes live.

Each quiz can also save Completed on (the date the shopper finished the quiz) and Recommended products (the products on their results). Turn them on in the opt-in question's settings.

Recommended productsa list of products (segments can't filter it)

Only shoppers who tick a marketing checkbox (email or text messages) get fields. A shopper who asks only for their results by email gets none. A quiz has at most 20 fields; a store at most 60.

Filter a customer segment#

  1. Go to Settings › Customer fields in Quizproof and copy the field's segment filter name, for example metafields.quizproof.skin_quiz_skin_type.

  2. In Shopify, go to Customers › Segments and create a segment.

  3. Use the filter name with:

    • text: metafields.quizproof.skin_quiz_skin_type = 'Oily'

    • a list: metafields.quizproof.skin_quiz_concerns CONTAINS 'Acne'

    • a number: metafields.quizproof.skin_quiz_age >= 30

    • a date: metafields.quizproof.skin_quiz_completed_on >= -30d

A new field takes a few minutes before segments can filter it. Until then, Shopify says it "is not available for filtering yet".

Other apps#

The fields are your store's, not only Quizproof's: every app with access to customers can read and change them.

When Quizproof removes values#

Quizproof deletes the values it wrote:

It deletes a value only while it is still the one Quizproof wrote. If another app or you changed it, it stays. A change made in the moment between Quizproof's check and its delete can still be lost, because Shopify has no "delete only if unchanged".

Delete fields, archive a quiz#

Customer segments that use deleted fields stop matching.

If you delete a field in Shopify yourself, Quizproof stops writing it and shows Removed in Shopify. It doesn't create it again on its own: choose Re-enable in Settings › Customer fields.

Uninstalling and retention#

Uninstalling Quizproof deletes its own records. The fields and values in Shopify stay: they are your store's data, and you manage them like any other customer data. Quizproof's answer retention (Settings › Privacy) covers the answers it keeps; values already saved on customers follow the rules above.

Menu paths such as Settings › Privacy are inside Quizproof: in your Shopify admin, open Apps › Quizproof. Where an article means Shopify's own settings, it says so.
