Import fit data from a spreadsheet
Open a finder, go to the Sources tab and use Import CSV. Pick the file, the source it goes into and what the file does, then Import. Every row is checked first: you see how many rows are ready and which have errors, and nothing reaches shoppers until you open Review changes and activate the change.
Download a sample gives you a small file with this finder's columns to start from.
The columns#
The first row names the columns. Their order doesn't matter.
| Column | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| One column per level | The configuration, for example HP, OfficeJet, 8025e. Use the level's name (as shown in the finder) or its key. |
sku · handle · product_id · variant_id | The product that fits. Fill one; if you fill several they must name the same product. |
fit | fits (the default when empty), excluded (doesn't fit, even if a wider row says it does) or universal (fits every configuration; leave the levels empty). |
note | Up to 80 characters, shown with the fit. |
config_id | Optional: a stable id for the configuration. Exports include it, so it survives renames. |
aliases | Optional: other names shoppers might type for the configuration, separated by |. |
Shorter rows fit more. Leave the last levels empty to fit everything under them:
HP,OfficeJet,,HP-67-BLKfits every OfficeJet model. A gap (an empty level followed by a filled one) is an error.A row without a product adds the configuration to the finder without saying what fits it.
A SKU on a product with one variant fits the product. A SKU on one of several variants fits only that variant. A SKU that more than one variant uses is an error: give the
variant_idinstead.Several products in one row: separate SKUs (or handles, product ids, variant ids) with
|.To write a
|inside an alias, type\|; to write a backslash, type\\.
Years#
| You write | It means |
|---|---|
2015 | 2015 |
2010-2015 | every year from 2010 to 2015 |
2017+ | 2017 and every later year, including years you add to the finder later |
2015,2017 | 2015 and 2017 (put the cell in quotes, or use ; between columns) |
Years go from 1900 to 2100. A config_id names one configuration, so it can't go on a row with a range or a list.
What the file does#
Add and update: the rows are added to the source. Its other rows stay.
Replace this source: the file becomes the source's whole content. Rows that aren't in the file are removed.
Remove these rows: the rows are removed from the source. A row without a product removes that configuration from the source.
A source only ever changes its own rows: other sources and your catalog data stay as they are.
Rows with errors#
A row is never guessed. An unknown SKU or handle, a SKU on two variants, products that don't match, a year that isn't a
year: each is an error, with the column to fix. Download errors gives you those rows with error_column and
error_message. Fix them and import that file again.
With Add and update or Remove these rows you can also tick Skip the rows with errors on the review page and activate the rest. A Replace with errors can't be skipped, because a row it couldn't read would remove what that row replaced: fix the file and upload it again.
Export#
Export on a source downloads its content in the same format: the configurations first (with their ids and aliases), then one row per fit. Edit it and import it back with Replace this source. If nothing changed, there's nothing to review.
A cell that starts with =, +, -, @ or ' gets one extra ' in front, so spreadsheet apps don't run it as a
formula. On import, one leading ' is always removed, so '=SUM(A1) comes back as =SUM(A1).
Export all sources adds a source column. It's for reading and backups: to import it, split it by source first.
Limits#
One CSV: up to 100 MB and 1,000,000 rows. Larger: split it into parts of up to 100 MB each and upload them together as one
.zip(up to 5 GB, 5,000,000 rows), read as one file. A large export downloads the same way.One source: up to 500,000 fit rows.
The file is UTF-8 CSV (Excel: CSV UTF-8), with
,,;or tab between columns.
